Two hundred years ago the area around Georgeville was a booming mining town withthe first gold discovered in America. After the end of the gold rush in North Carolina Georgeville once again became a relaxed bedroom community. GeorgevilleNew Georgeville Volunteer Fire Department was established after the community saw a need for a local fire station. On December 15, 1970 the citizens of the Georgeville fire district met and officially organized their volunteer fire department. Land and materials for the new station were donated and work began. Before long the community of Georgeville had it’s on Fire Station. The only task left was for them to elect a Fire Chief so Wade “Bud” Biggers was elected as the first Fire Chief. He later died in 1975 but left his devotion and dedication instilled in the members of this young fire department. The department continued to have numerous
fund raising events to meet the financial needs of the department. But as time progressed and the department continued to grow there was a need for a fire tax to be collected. So on June 4th 1977 the citizens approved the tax and Georgeville Volunteer Fire Department now had a taxed based budget. As time passed the County saw it’s call volumes increasing and there became a need for
day time staffing. Now all volunteer departments in Cabarrus County have part-time employees covering the daytime calls while the volunteers are working. For those two hundred years the area has seen some huge changes, going from the hustle of the gold rush to the relaxed bedroom community of today. As the community of Georgeville continues to grow their department will also grow and adapt to this ever changing world.
