Aubrey "Short" Barbee

1938 -2010

Short was a familiar face around the station. He was a founding member of Georgeville VFD and, he was still active on the department's board up until his death. He gave 39 years of service to the community of Georgeville, never asking anything in return. He even helped to grade the lot for the Fire Station as it was being built. Short was a humble but blunt man, he would let you know how he felt about things. He worked at the mulch and landscape supplies lot on the corner of Hwy 200 and Reed Mine Rd. You could always find him sitting in his truck under a shade tree. He was a great person to have a conversation with,  he would tell you about a time when things were simple and moved at a slower pace. Short served as a firefighter for 26 years, he was also the Fire Chief for 3 years, and then as age caught up to him he became a member of the board of directors for10 years. He was the definition of a volunteer and will be remembered for his work in the development of Georgeville VFD.
